If you're ever looking for a good little hotel in Virginia Beach, I recommend the "Econo Lodge on the Ocean". (I'd include a link here, but they make that a little hard to do.) You have to be careful, there are at least two Econo Lodge hotels here, but you want the one at 2707 Atlantic Avenue. It's only three stories tall, it's right on the boardwalk in a decent neighborhood, and all the rooms face the beach. I'm writing this blog entry in November, 2007, and I'm paying just $53 per night, which is a great bargain, especially with the great weather.
For my money, this is a great little no-frills hotel for people on a budget. I think it would be really nice for one person or a couple, and they seem to have adjoining rooms for larger groups.
(That being said, the Econo Lodge Fort Savannah in Lewisburg, West Virginia is one of the scariest hotels I've been in. Not all Econo Lodge hotels are created equal.)
