I've always railed against reality tv, but I have to admit -- I do watch Project Runway, at least this year's version. I usually record the darn thing at night, then watch it as soon as I can the next day.
The thing I like about the show is seeing the creativity of the individuals, and the competition between them and their designs. Can you imagine if all of your life was that competitive? I don't think I'd like that all the time, but I would like it some of the time. I think competition does make people stronger, and in this case, I think it makes their designs better.
For a long time I shied away from competition, as I struggled with some of my own personal beliefs, but I don't do that any more. Now it's much more like hey, bring it on. I'll win some, and I'll lose some, but I'll also be better for it.
The other thing I like about the show is that it reinforces something else for me: You can be a great individual designer/programmer/whatever, but if you can't work well with other people, you're going to be at least somewhat limited in what you can achieve. The episodes where they have the designers produce some of the best -- and worst -- designs on the show. The best designs seem to come from two people working well together, and the worst seem to come from two people that just don't click.
