Some people have asked what the sun is like during the winter months in Alaska. I didn't end up staying there through the winter, but here's an image from a webcam in Fairbanks, Alaska that shows what the sun was like at 3 p.m. on December 16, 2007.

I keep a page open to that webcam most of the time just to see what the winter looks like there. If you happen to see it around noon in December you'll see that the sun just crawls over the top of the horizon during that time.
