Background

The Korn shell is one of the three main login shells in use today. The others are the Bourne shell and the C shell. The Korn shell includes all of the commands available in the Bourne shell (i.e., it is a superset of the Bourne shell). It also includes many of the features of the C shell. The Korn shell is rapidly becoming the most commonly used shell in UNIX environments.

The Korn shell is referred to as the "ksh".
